Caring for Linen Tablecloths
Treat your linen with consistency and avoid harsh shortcuts. Wash it in lukewarm water on a gentle cycle, dry it only until it is damp, and iron while the fibers still retain some moisture to ensure the fabric stays crisp and intact for years.

Linen fibers are durable but brittle when dry; regular, gentle laundering keeps them pliable. Do not wait for deep stains to set; address spills as soon as the table is cleared.

Ironing While Damp
Linen resists flat surfaces once it is bone-dry. Press the fabric while it still feels slightly cool and damp to the touch to allow the fibers to relax into a smooth finish.

Pre-treat spots
Identify oil or food marks. Apply a drop of mild detergent directly to the spot and rub the fabric against itself gently. Let it sit for ten minutes before washing.
Wash with care
Use a machine setting for delicates with lukewarm water. Avoid overcrowding the drum so the linen has room to move without twisting or stretching.
Dry to dampness
Remove the tablecloth from the dryer or line while it still feels supple. If you hang-dry, do so in the shade to prevent ultraviolet light from fading the natural flax fibers.
Apply heat
Lay the cloth flat on an ironing board. Set the iron to the linen setting. Move the iron quickly across the grain to avoid snagging, using the spray bottle to dampen stubborn creases as you work.

Never use bleach on linen, as it degrades the cellulose fibers and causes premature yellowing.
Store tablecloths rolled around a cardboard tube rather than folded to prevent permanent deep-set creases.
Avoid using fabric softeners, which leave a waxy buildup that dulls the natural luster of the flax.

Can I use a tumble dryer?
Yes, but only on a low-heat, short cycle. Remove it before it is fully dry to prevent the heat from setting creases that become nearly impossible to iron out.
